This Blog is for the use of and about customers of Business Metamorphosis LLC. BML is an Innovation Services Business. Our customers are people doing new things whether it is starting a new business, building a new product or engaging new customers in a new market.

My name is Richard Blazey and I am Managing Member of BML.

I am an innovator and innovation coach. I have over 30 years experience in developing new products and have earned 28 patents. I have a Masters in Electrical Engineering but most of my career was spent doing industrial research at Eastman Kodak.

My last six years at Kodakwere spent at the System Concepts Center which was one of the first “Innovation Hubs” in the nation.

Innovation Hubs are something new. There are about 12 hubs in the nation, mostly in large corporations. They fill the gap between government and university research which mostly develop new technologies and new product incubators which commercialize new products based on those technologies.

In many large corporations Engineering, Marketing and Finance are “siloed” bureaucracies that have little direct contact with one another. Hubs combine all the product development functions into a single organization cutting down on confusion and providing a process that improves customer focus and reduces time to market. Hubs have been studied at RPI and are still evolving.

While at Kodak’s hub , I lead multifunctional teams in developing a wide range of projects from developing the first objective test for Attention Deficit Disorder to new products for Homeland Security.

I left Kodak in January 2003 and formed Business Metamorphosis LLC in June 2003 to apply the many tools and techniques I had learned in my six years of hub experience to bear on the problem of creating new businesses in Western NY state where the manufacturing base has been decaying for years.

BML works with startup businesses and small companies . I use the tools I learned at SCC. We have a strong concentration in intellectual property. We can help you get patents, manage those you had strategically so that you can use them grow your business and even earn extra revenue.

I hold a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from Cornell and a Masters in Solid State electronics from Purdue. I am a member of the Optical Society of America and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, The Rochester Professonal Consultants Association, and I'm Vice-President of Innovations Rochester, an Entrepreneurs support group.
